What is wrong with people?

Coraline2

I just got back from Target, where I witnessed a 2 year old drop his bunny-shaped lollipop on the tile floor near the checkout stand. (Probably the most highly trafficked part of the store, btw). He of course started crying, "My bunny!" and I was horrified to see his mother pick it up off the floor, wipe it and hand it back to him to put back in his mouth!!!

I almost wanted to offer to buy him a new clean one if she wouldn't do that!

She totally missed out on two teaching moments - one opportunity to talk about germs and why we don't, as productive citizens and good people, eat things that fell on the ground. And another about how you should hold your lollipop carefully or else you might lose it - and that crying and throwing a tantrum won't get you another one.

First of all, your 2 year old should probably not be eating a lollipop at all, but maybe I don't know the backstory. Maybe this is a 1 time special occasion lollipop or they're having a particularly hard day or they just lost a family member and are trying to cheer themselves up.

Now, if I dropped something in my home, I wouldn't hesitate to use the 2 second rule and wipe it off and hand it back to a baby. This despite the fact my kitchen floor only gets mopped twice a week and I have cats with dirty feet walking all over it. Sometimes you just have to let your kid get some germs.

But not from the filthy, disgusting, horrifically germy TARGET floor, for crying out loud!!

Next, on the way home, the car in the next lane over suddenly drifted into my lane and almost scraped along the side of my car. I was paying attention, so moved over to give her room. The other driver didn't even notice she'd done it. I looked over at her as I sped by, figuring she was distracted from talking on her cell phone.

Nope! She had a toothbrush in her mouth and was BRUSHING HER TEETH. While driving.

WTF?!

Happy Halloween!!!!

I hope I will have pics of the party I'm throwing - I might be too busy hostessing to take any though!

Have a wonderfully spooky Halloween everyone!

Stop Me, Before I Buy Again!!

Candy

My Alice Pink Little Pullip arrived today (pics to follow in a day or two) and is so cute, I had to go buy more stuff from the same seller ( Happyerwinma).

This is all [info]kathputli_girl's fault!

Ever After.. Dollcena doesn't match the other dolls I'm buying, but this is CINDERELLA!

Well since I'm already getting a Dollcena, might as well have a Halloween one too!

Well, if I'm playing with Halloween dolls I might as well have Vampira Elvira too!

I can't resist lavender hair!

Finally caved and bought myself a Little Pullip, after agonizing for an hour yesterday and probably an hour tonight. It's hard to choose, there are so many cute ones!

It's not that the purchase is that big, it's that I will (hopefully) not allow myself to buy TOO many of these, so I want to be really choosy with which ones I get.

I got either a doll wearing blue or one wearing pink .. The title says pink, the description says blue, the photo shows both. I don't care either way, these are freaking cute!

When in doubt, always go with Alice.

South Tampa News & Trib

I'm missing all the fun, because I had to go to my grandma's birthday party instead. But I'm having fun watching the Olympics opening ceremony with my stepmom and stepsister. It's amazingly gorgeous!

Thanks to all my LJ friends who are photo blogging from Convergence so I can enjoy it from afar!

My Confined Space

When directors watch a movie with a microphone in front of them and talk about what they're seeing on the screen, it's called a director's commentary. What's it called when you write a lengthy blog post to comment on the movie - only you aren't the director? Is there a term for this?

Does anybody do this?!

I don't mean something like the very cool "Rewatching X-files" LJ community, where people watch an episode of the X-Files and then blog a short paragraph or two with their reaction to the episode. Different from an episode guide that people do for TV shows so fans who missed the episode know what happened. In that case, you're just writing down what happened, not necessarily how you felt about what you saw on screen.

I mean something more like this:

One time I was really sad I couldn't watch "Frida" with [info]kathputli_girlin person - we love Frida Kahlo! So I sat down with a computer and wrote her a very long detailed letter while I watched the movie. Every thought I had while watching it, even "Ooh, she just walked in in a gorgeous red dress. I love that dress. Oh, there's a cute puppy now. It reminds me of my puppy when I was 6" "wow, so-and-so actor is doing a fabulous job, I am enjoying this" etc.

The idea was for her to read the letter while watching the movie too - she couldn't read it beforehand as it would spoil the movie - or for her to write to me too while watching the movie herself, then compare notes with my letter later.

I obviously wouldn't inflict such a longwinded, every-tiny-detail movie watching letter on anybody other than a very close friend who loves the same movies as me. But tonight as I'm rewatching (and enjoying) "The Others," just for fun, I feel like it might be entertaining for me to blog along with it. Entertaining for me to do it, but probably not entertaining for someone else to read through my notes!

Wonder Woman Geekery

Hulu doesn't have it yet, so I'm geeking out today watching old Wonder Woman episodes on AOL. Pretty good way to work through my cold, as I lounge around drinking my Trader Joe's apple juice, jasmine tea, and sniffling into my Kleenexes.

Grooveshark Music Player

This is a new service that lets you listen to songs for free. I was able to immediately find a fun Cyndi Lauper cover of "I Drove All Night" to listen to right away. If you sign up for the service, you can create playlists and share them with your friends. It's an easy to use, spam-free website. You can buy some of the songs to download, which I guess is how they'll pay for all the free service on the site. I was surprised by how comprehensive the music collection is.

They have interesting Current 93 songs I'd never heard, a nice selection of Joy Division, and even some Sharukh Khan songs.
